CZECH REPUBLIC – A COUNTRY OF LIVING HISTORY

With its location in the heart of Europe, on the crossroads of commercial and migratory routes, the Czech lands were confronted with various cultural influences and constructional styles during the course of history. Because the country was one of a few that were only slightly touched by both the last war and the clearance projects of modernism, its rich cultural inheritance was preserved. Emperors, kings and the aristocracy, religious believers and merchants had their castles, chateaux, palaces, churches, cloisters and residencies built here – many of them belong now to the world heritage.

There are only few towns and areas in the world where you will encounter so many architectural styles during a short walk as you will in Prague. Outside of Prague the attention of visitors is caught mainly by the historical centres of towns (Brno, Ceske Budejovice, Jindrichuv Hradec, Trebic, Pisek, Trebon, Tabor, Slavonice, Znojmo, Mikulov...), castles (Karlstejn, Krivoklat, Cesky Sternberk, Loket, Kost, Nelahozeves…), chateaux (Konopiste, Sychrov, Melnik, Dobris, Jemniste, detenice, Stirin…) which are worth to visit during the half day or full day tours.
Apart from normal visits, majority of castles and chateaux offer night visits or historical costumed visits, and other activities.

MEDIEVAL (RENAISSANCE OR BAROQUE) DINNERS
These dinners are organized either in authentic castles (Loket, Nelahozeves) and chateaux (Jemniste, Sychrov), or historical restaurants and palaces.
They are themed into respective historical period concerning decoration, costumes (not only serving persons, but also the guests if such a wish) and menu. The dinners are accompanied by historical music, welcome of historical personality (eg. Charles IV., Rudolf II., Dracula…) and historical program as well (dances, songs, theatre, magicians or jugglers).

LIFE AT THE CHATEAU (CASTLE)
Interactive program at the chateau/castle - welcome flourishes sound, the guests are welcomed by a Master of Ceremonies. On the chateau/castle courtiers play their period games: bowling alley, croquet, darts, circle throwing, nobles practice fencing and invite the guests to a fencing school. The program includes revived tours of the chateau/castle: school of old dances, performances of noble ladies e.g. over the hot chocolate, in the cellar an executioner’s corner with an execution block, visit to ancient kitchen, a monk in the chapel…

HISTORICAL TOURNAMENTS, COMPETITIONS
Traditional fencing - in the courtyard of a chateau or at the foot of a castle, fencers dressed in traditional costumes from the 14th to 17th centuries reenact duels. Witness an exciting display of medieval chivalry as swords clash.
