Berlin
The capital and the biggest city of Germany is the gateway to eastern Europe. It was divided into East Berlin, the capital of the German Democratic Republic, and West Berlin by the Berlin Wall (1961-1989).Visitors can enjoy three opera houses, two great concert halls and 35 theatres, plus cabarets, musicals and revues. Art-lovers are also spoilt for choice at no fewer than 170 excellent museums. The most famous sites are Brandenburg Gate, St. Nikolai Church, Charlottenburg Castle, Bellevue Castle, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the Berlin Town Hall, the Victory Column, Potsdamer Platz.
